​CONTRAINDICATIONS 

The booking policy at Skincare Oasis details the conditions that may prevent or restrict clients from receiving specific services, with additional contraindications that may not be explicitly listed. The establishment reserves the right to determine contraindications and encourages clients to consult their doctors for advice.





Contraindications that PREVENT a manual facial treatment:

This includes Hot stones facial which also has additional contraindications please see below

  • Viruses such as colds, FLU, COVID19, fever

  • Bacterial infections such as impetigo, boils, conjunctivitis, styes, Fungal infections such as ringworm, blepharitis

  • Undiagnosed lumps or swelling

  • Broken bones

  • known sensitivity or allergy to products

  • Eczema, psoriasis

  • Cold sores, fresh bruising, open sores, bleeding, tooth abscess

  • Broken jaw or other facial bone

  • Facial cancer

  • Head lice

  • Recently consumed alcohol

  • Under the influence of drugs

  • Unstable blood pressure

  • Recent head injury

  • Recent neck injury

  • Contagious disease

  • Recent haemorrhage

  • Recent scarring

  • Severe acne

  • Surgery within 3 months

  • fillers within 4 weeks 

Contraindications that PREVENT Hot stone facial treatment - 

  • high blood pressure

  • Diabetes 

  • Heart disease 

  • Varicose veins 

  • Cardiac patients 

  • Those with suppressed immune systems 

  • Within 3 months of surgery 

  • Those undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy

  • Skin conditions that are aggravated by heat,

  • Using blood thinning medication

  • Pregnant

Aggravated skin conditions include:

  • Burns 

  • Skin cancer

  • Psoriasis 

  • Dermatitis 

  • Acne 

  • Eczema

  • Shingles 

  • Sensitive skin

  • Rosacea and any areas of weakened or inflamed skin.

Contra-indications that PREVENT  light therapy treatments: 

  • Women who are pregnant should consult their GP before beginning LED light therapy treatments.

  • Clients with Epilepsy should consult their doctor before beginning LED light therapy treatments.

  • You must wait five days after Botox or cosmetic fillers. 

  • People with a history of skin cancer

  • Systemic Lupus erythematosus should also avoid this kind of treatment.

  • The use of photosensitizing medications (i.e. lithium, melatonin, phenothiazine antipsychotics and certain antibiotics). 

  • Diseases that involve the retina of the eye (such as diabetes)

 

  • AFTERCARE ADVICE

  • Always wear a broad-spectrum UVA & UVB sunscreen

  • Don’t clean your skin in the evening after your treatment

  • Allow the serums to soak in and work overnight

  • Gently cleanse your skin using a mild cleanser for the next 48 hours

  • Avoid sunbeds and tanning in direct sunlight

  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms and swimming pools for 12 hours after

Contra-indications that PREVENT  Hydrafacial treatments and Advanced Electrical treatments: 

  • Epilepsy

  • Pregnancy and breast feeding

  • Cancer at any time and in any form

  • Blood disorders

  • Internal heat in the body (ex: fever or acute inflammation)

  • Kidney and liver disease

  • Severe high blood pressure or circulation problems

  • Severe Couperosis

  • Hemorrhagic disease, trauma, vascular rupture

  • Inflammation of the veins, phlebitis

  • Infections

  • Autoimmune diseases

  • Red, dry, and itchy skin rashes

  • Transmissible diseases

  • Impetigo

  • Diabetes - Clients must provide written permission from their GP before treatment can be carried out.

  • Accutane - Accutane causes thinning of the skin; you must wait 6 months after discontinuing Accutane before performing having the treatment.

  • Pacemakers, metal pins, body piercings

  • HIV/AIDS

  • Undergoing chemotherapy or immune therapy

  • Immunodeficiency

  • Lupus

  • Prednisone and other steroid medications (treatment will increase inflammation)

  • Heart problems or diseases

  • Haemorrhagic disease, trauma or bleeding

  • Numb or insensitive to heat

  • Rosacea

  • Active implanted device such as pacemaker or defibrillator

Conditions that need a doctors letter to confirm the treatment is suitable before treatments can begin:

  • Epilepsy

  • Transplant Anti-Rejection Drugs

  • Thyroid Disease

  • Heart Disease

  • Hypertension (High blood pressure treated with medication)

  • Cancer - after 12 months

  • The list below is of things that require a waiting period until you can start treatments:

  • Recent surgery (wait 6 months)

  • Recent scars (wait 6 months)

  • Open lesions (avoid area)

  • Skin diseases (avoid area)

  • Infection (avoid area)

  • Antibiotics (wait until course completed)

  • Inflammation (avoid area)

  • Varicose veins (avoid area)

  • Prosthesis/silicone implants (avoid area)

  • Metal implants/screws (avoid area)

  • Metal contraceptive coil (avoid area)

  • Depilatory creams (wait 2 weeks)

  • Areas being treated with IPL or Laser (wait 2 weeks)

  • Areas being treated with Botox® (wait 3 months) or dermal fillers (wait 2 weeks)

  • Suntan  and Sunburn (sun must be avoided the entire duration of the treatment regime)

  • Chronic inflammation (depending on the severity of chronic inflammatory conditions - consider that treatment will increase inflammation and anti-inflammatory medications reduce the effectiveness of the treatment - please discuss with your doctor first.

PRE-TREATMENT ADVICE

  • Two days prior to treatment, discontinue using all alpha hydroxy acid products (those containing glycolic or lactic acid), salicylic acid products, retinoids (Retin A, Renova, Differin and Tazorac) and other topical acne medications such as benzoyl peroxide. If in doubt about using any product, please seek medical advice.

  • The following procedures should not be performed for a minimum of 7 days before:

  • Waxing

  • Tweezing

  • Electrolysis

  • Laser treatments (any kind)

  • Injections (Collagen & BOTOX)

  • Chemical peels (any kind)

  • Facials

  • NOTE: If you have a history of herpes simplex virus (cold sores or fever blisters), in rare instances a reactivation of this condition could occur after treatment. Please inform your nurse or physician so that an anti-viral medication can be prescribed before the treatment.

  • AFTERCARE ADVICE​

  • Do not directly expose the treated area to the sun for at least 48 hours after the treatment. Use a sunscreen every day that blocks both UVA and UVB rays, preferably one containing zinc or titanium dioxide, which should not irritate the skin.

  • The following procedures should not be performed for a minimum of 14 days after:

  • Waxing

  • Scrubs or exfoliants

  • Electrolysis

  • Tweezing

  • Injections (Collagen & BOTOX)

  • Laser treatments (any kind)

  • Facials or masks

  • Chemical peels (any kind)

Brow & Eye Treatments Contraindications

: • Positive reaction to a patch or sensitivity test (allergy). A patch test must be done 48 hours before the procedure

• Cysts (A cyst is a lump of the upper or lower eyelid caused by obstruction and inflammation of an oil gland of the eyelid - also known as a meibomian, tarsal ore granuloma cyst

• Hordeola/Style/Styes (a small collection of puss/abscess on the eyelid)

• Blepharitis (an ocular condition characterised by chronic inflammation of the eyelid)

• Chemotherapy (cancer treatment)

• Skin Disease, skin trauma, cuts, abrasions, burns and swelling in the immediate area

• Weak eyelashes at therapist's discretion on consultation (from over-styling or product use)

• Skin Disorders in the general eye area (Dermatitis, Xanthelasma & Syringoma)

• Eye infections such as Impetigo or Conjunctivitis

• Eye inflammation such as Uveitis

• Recent operations around eyes, head or face or scar tissue in immediate areas

• Watery eyes

• Hypersensitive skin/eyes

• Keratitis (inflammation of the cornea of the eye)

• Alopecia (loss of hair)

• Trichotillomania (classified as an impulse control disorder and is the compulsive urge to pull out one’s own hair

• Bells Palsy or any condition that makes closing or opening eyes difficult

• Any disease/disorder that causes shaking, twitching or erratic movements CONTRAINDICATIONS &

 

Special Care – Requires a GP Referral

The following contraindications might still mean that the treatment can be performed however it is recommended to obtain a GP/doctor referral before proceeding.

• Dry eye syndrome

• Glaucoma

• Post Chemotherapy
